Radwegestopp in Berlin?

Liebe Freund*innen und Unterstützer*innen von Berlin autofrei,

 

Manja Schreiner, Berlins neue Verkehrssenatorin, will keine neuen Radwege bauen, wenn dafür auch nur ein Auto-Parkplatz umverteilt werden muss. Dagegen demonstrieren wir auf dem Fahrrad am
Sonntag, den 2. Juli
um 14:00 Uhr
ab Falkplatz (bei der Max-Schmeling Halle).
Die Demonstration wird von Fridays for Future, ADFC Berlin und Changing Cities organisiert und wir sind mit dabei. Wir werden uns für einen autofrei-Block vor dem Restaurant The Bird treffen. Dort bekommt, wer möchte, auch eine autofrei-Weste und Fahne.

Zum Hintergrund:

 

Die Stadt benötigt lebenswerte Kieze und sichere Straßen für alle Verkehrsteilnehmer*innen. Insbesondere Schulkinder sind darauf angewiesen, damit sie mit dem Fahrrad oder zu Fuß zur Schule auch sicher unterwegs sind. Darüber hinaus profitieren auch Autofahrer*innen von neuen Radwegen, da diese den Fahrradverkehr stärken und somit den Menschen mehr Platz bieten, die tatsächlich auf das Auto angewiesen sind.

Nun hat die Verkehrssenatorin die Planung und den Bau aller Radwegeprojekte ausgesetzt, obwohl das Mobilitätsgesetz und der vom Abgeordnetenhaus beschlossene Radverkehrsplan deren Umsetzung vorsehen. Die Senatorin gibt an, prioritäre Prüfungen durchführen zu wollen, dabei ist das Mobilitätsgesetz bereits mit Qualitätsstandards und Ausbauplänen bis 2030 ausgestattet. Zudem wurden die betroffenen Radwege in langwierigen Prozessen geprüft, geplant und genehmigt. Durch diesen Stopp droht jetzt auch die Gefahr, dass bereits zugesagte Fördermittel des Bundes für diese Radwege verfallen.

 

Das Mobilitätsgesetz sieht vor, dass Fußgänger*innen, Radfahrer*innen und der öffentliche Verkehr Vorrang vor dem Autoverkehr haben. Besonders betroffen von der der Blockadehaltung der CDU sind diejenigen Berliner*innen, die sich nicht mit dem Auto fortbewegen und daher auf gute und sichere Fuß- und Radwege sowie einen funktionierenden öffentlichen Nahverkehr angewiesen sind. Anstatt die bereits geplanten Radwege umzusetzen, verfällt der neue Senat in eine ideologische und populistische Anti-Fahrrad und Pro-Auto-Rhetorik.

Bike lanes standstill for Berlin?

Manja Schreiner, Berlin's new senator of transport, does not want to build new bike lanes if even one car parking space has to be redistributed. Against this we will protest on bikes on

The protest is organized by Fridays for Future, ADFC Berlin and Changing Cities and we are with them. We will meet for a autofrei-block in front of the restaurant The Bird. Whoever wants to will also receive a autofrei-vest and flag there.

Background:

 

The city needs livable neighborhoods and safe streets for all road users. School children in particular depend on this to get to school safely by bike or on foot. In addition, car drivers also benefit from new bike lanes, as commuters are more motivated to switch to bicycles, creating more space for people who actually rely on cars..

Now the Senator of Transportation has suspended the planning and construction of all bike lane projects, even though the Mobility Act and the Bike Plan passed by the Berlin House of Representatives both call for their implementation. The senator claims she wants to conduct priority reviews, yet the Mobility Act already provides for quality standards and expansion plans through 2030. In addition, the affected bike lanes were reviewed, planned and approved in lengthy processes. As a result of this standstill, there is now also a risk that federal funding already promised for these bike paths will be forfeited.

 

The Mobility Act requires that pedestrians, cyclists and public transport have priority over car traffic. Particularly affected by the CDU's obstructive attitude are those Berliners who do not get around by car and therefore depend on good and safe pedestrian and bicycle paths as well as a functioning public transport system. Instead of implementing the already planned bike lanes, the new senate falls into an ideological and populist anti-bike and pro-car rhetoric.
